Elihu N. Pleasant-Bey is one of the most passionate and controversial writers of the 21^st century.

Born Nathaniel Pleasant August 20, 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia, Elihu is the only son of Prince David Bell and Linda Battle. His mother died during his toddler years, leaving his father to raise him alone. Elihu came to learn that his father was the seventh son of James Edward Bell, a descendant of slaves and Liberian nationals. Living with his father, Elihu traveled extensively throughout the east coast and southern states of Maryland and the Carolinas. This wanderlust lifestyle of his fathers led Elihu to have a profound knowledge of people and places. In his youth, Elihu was exposed to the blighted urban American ghettoes of Baltimore as well as poor rural towns in North and South Carolina. After graduating high school, Elihu was forced to marry his young girlfriend when it was discovered she was pregnant. Their marriage was a rocky relationship and during this time Elihu lived and worked various jobs to care for his family. Elihu and his first wife would have four children. In all Elihu has been married four times and have a total of 24 children.

Once when Elihu and his first wife were having a go at reconciliation, he moved back to Carolina to find work which never materialized. Frustration led to Elihu “developing a relationship with the banking industry” and a 10 year conviction for bank robbery. While in prison Elihu became acquainted with the Moorish Science Temple of America, and was quickly converted. Upon being paroled after 4 ½ years in prison, Elihu immediately joined the MSTA and began his internship under the leadership of Dr. R. Rufus German-Bey. Like Malcolm X, who became an outspoken proponent for the Nation of Islam, Elihu soon became an outspoken defender of the Moors doctrines, accepting the teachings of Prophet Noble Drew Ali.

Timothy Drew was born in January 8, 1886 in North Carolina. At the age of 13, he joined a circus and became admired for his unique acts of levitation and magic. Befriended by a band of Roma, Timothy was soon traveling the world as a young American Negro. Within three years his travels landed him in Egypt where he met the high priest of an Ancient Mystery System, culturally known as “Seauton Gnothi” (Man Know Thy Self). The leader saw him as a reincarnation of the founder of the Order, while other adepts considered him a reincarnation of Yehoshua (Jesus) The Christ. After passing their hardest test, Drew was educated in mysticism and had bestowed upon him all secrets of the Qumran. This “Little opened Text” came to be known as the Holy Koran of the Moorish Science Temple of America, and is referred to as the “uniting of the Holy Koran of Mecca.” Sometimes the title is abbreviated as ‘The Circle Seven Koran’ because of the design on its cover, namely the numeral seven surrounded by the four quadrants of a circle. Upon completion of his Sufi Science, at the age of 26, Timothy Drew was anointed the high graduate degree of ‘Faithful’ or Moslem (The will of God). He rose from Egypt to make his required pilgrimage to Mecca where his name was changed to ‘Sharif Abdul Ali’ and given the title of ‘Sheik.’ This eastern attribute translates in English to "Noble Drew Ali.” He kept the family name ‘Drew’ to remind his people of their quest to freedom. During his Hajj he was recognized by Sultan Abdul Aziz Ibu Suad, Head of the Islamic World, who authorized Ali to become the first descendant of Africa to teach the old Time Gospel of Islam in the western hemisphere. Shortly after his 27^th Birthday he returned to the United States where he founded the first Islamic Temple in Newark, New Jersey. Until the year 1913, The Holy Quran, called the ‘Book Of Fire’ and the practice of the Religion of Islam had been forbidden by the European Founders of the United States. It was a criminal act to allow slaves and ex-slaves to meet in a circle and prostrate in a prayer line. Albeit the duty Ali was ordained to fulfill would earn him the ancient title of “Prophet” (Savior of a nation). Before his death in 1929 Prophet Noble Drew Ali initiated and taught Fard Mohammed who left the MSTA to begin the Nation of Islam, which Elijah Muhammad, also a member of Ali’s Temple, took over as leader upon Fard’s mysterious disappearance. From the tutelage of Elijah Mohammed came Malcolm X. He later became “El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz” after following the eastern pathway of Sheik Sharif Abdul Ali. His pilgrimage gave an international light to the Nation of Islam.

And like Malcolm X who came into conflict with the Nation of Islam and Elijah Muhammed, Elihu came into conflict with several members of the MSTA and in his words was set up for a conspiracy case where he was sent back to prison for 3 years. During this time of incarceration, Elihu wrote the Biography of Noble Drew Ali, the Exhuming of a Nation. The book is born and bred from the many years of research and study Elihu has performed. Upon his release he immediately went to work with the assistance of his wives in publishing the book.

Elihu is husband, father, writer and entrepreneur. He has owned several businesses and worked as a community activist receiving commendation from the Mayor of Baltimore for his outreach work in the community. After years of study, Elihu became a doctor of theology from the Moorish Science Temple of America, where he has for many years been Minister. Dr. Pleasant Bey is today courted by numerous organizations to speak publicly about his book and the doctrines and history of the MSTA. While the MSTA enjoys a backseat to publicity, not desiring notoriety or publicity, Dr. Elihu Pleasant-Bey sees the advantage of media recognition. He is quick to call himself the number one defender of Noble Drew Ali. His desire is to inform the world of the truth of the teachings of the late prophet Noble Drew Ali, and to inform the so called Negro, colored or Black man of his true nationality.
